Overview
IPD were commissioned to investigate pedestrian safety improvements outside the Te Papapa School on Captain Springs Road, Onehunga, in the Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board area. The project complexities included HCV route usage, school pick up and drop off, residential parking demand, and overhead powerlines. Safety assessments identified driver awareness issues related to the existing flush pedestrian crossing and illegal parking during school pick-up and drop-off hours. The final design provides mitigative measures for both safety concerns.
Key features
- Altered flush pedestrian crossing
- Repeater side islands
- Widened footpath
- New lighting
- High friction surfacing
- 'SLOW' message marking
