Overview
IPD were commissioned to investigate and design an appropriate crossing facility providing connectivity for pedestrians between Ernies Reserve and Colin Lawrie Fields located on either side of Reynolds Road, in the Franklin Local Board area. The project complexities included bus route and heavy vehicle allowance, ensuring adequate visibility and minimal parking removal while catering to the pedestrian desire lines. A range of pedestrian facilities were considered including both raised and at-grade pedestrian crossings, side islands and a pedestrian refuge crossing. Based on the vehicle types using Reynolds Road and the observed pedestrian volumes a refuge crossing was deemed an appropriate solution at this location.
Key features
- New refuge crossing
- New pram crossing across Colin Lawrie Fields access
- New footpath loop catering to pedestrian desire lines
- Upgraded road markings and/or signage
